Camp Introduction

Objectives

  • To raise awareness of artificial intelligence (AI) of the public
  • To provide AI experiential learning opportunities to the public
  • To promote AI education to the public

Eligibility

General public (By registration, first-come-first-served basis)
Due to safety concerns, only participants aged 8 years old or above are eligible for workshops.

Visitors under 12 years old must be accompanied by adults throughout the Open Day. Accompanying adult (maximum 1 person) is also required to fill in the registration form.

To ensure safe passage, visitors aged betwee 13 to 16 should be accompanied by adults for pick-up and drop-off at the event venue. If visitors aged betwee 13 to 16 wish to be accompanied by adults throughout the Open Day, accompanying adult (maximum 1 person) is also required to fill in the registration form.

Remarks:
1. Format and/or content of the Open Day may change or cancel in light of the latest developments of the pandemic.
2. To implement government’s Vaccine Pass scheme, visitors will be required to present their Vaccine Pass for verification to show evidence of vaccination or exemption for medical reasons upon campus access.
3. To comply with the government regulation, visitors are required to use the "Leave Home Safe" application mandatorily when they entered any buildings in CUHK campus.
4. Visitors are required to measure body temperature and fill in health declaration form when entering the event venues.
5. CUHK Jockey Club AI for the Future Project reserves the final right of decision.

AI Lab Visits Visitors can look around and experience AI demonstrations developed by the Project’s research team under the themes of “AI for Living”, “AI for Art” and “AI for Fun”. Docents will introduce the AI technology used in each demonstration. Cantonese/ English 30 minutes 20
Machine Learning Crash Course Machine learning (ML) is the subfield of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that studies how computer systems can carry out complex processes by learning from data, rather than following pre-programmed rules. This workshop will leverage a story of a child who loves cooking to introduce the most essential ML basic concepts, and how to find a good ML solution. The workshop will also include a short hands-on project to solve a real-life problem using the knowledge just learnt. Cantonese / English 2 hours 30 minutes 20
Introduction to AI Workshop AI education is an emerging trend around the globe. Many local secondary schools realize the importance of AI education in the early ages. Yet, AI is difficult for students to understand, because it contains a lot of complex knowledge such as algorithm and programming. Experience AI with iCar To provide entry level experience of AI, the Project’s research team developed iCar which equipped with various AI functions and used Blockly as programming language which is very suitable for beginners. Through this workshop, you can experience how to easily programme the robot car for different AI experiments. Cantonese / English 1 hour 30 minutes 20
Introduction to Mechanical Tools Apart from software support, hardware is also necessary to apply AI in daily life. Through this workshop, the speaker not only introduces safety rules of common mechanical tools but also demonstrate their basic usage. Frequently Asked Questions

1To join the Open Day, am I required to have a basic understanding of AI?
No, there is no requirement of basic knowledge of AI. Anyone interested in AI are welcome to join the Open Day.
2Could I register more than one session of AI Lab visits or workshops?
Yes, you are welcome to join more than one session. Registration of all sessions are based on first-come-first-served basis. No walk-in will be entertained.
3How can I get to William M.W. Mong Engineering Building?
A shuttle bus will be arranged for visitors to travel between the University MTR station and M.W. Mong Engineering Building.
You may also drive to the building through the University Entrance (enter from Tai Po Road), Chung Chi College Entrance (enter from Tai Po Road) or East Gate Entrance (enter from Tolo Highway).
4If I have not received the third dose of vaccination, can I join the Open Day?
Admission of visitors will be conducted in accordance to the Government’s latest “Vaccine Pass” scheme requirement. Visitors will be required to present their Vaccine Pass for verification to show evidence of vaccination or exemption for medical reasons upon campus access. 5If the pandemic is getting worse, will the Open Day suspend or cancel?
The arrangement of the Open Day will be subject to change in view of worse pandemic situation. Latest information will be announced on the Project’s website and informed by email.
6Is it a must for adults to accompany children during the Open Day?
Visitors under 12 years old must be accompanied by adults throughout the Open Day. Accompanying adult (maximum 1 person) is required to fill in registration form. To ensure safe passage, visitors aged below 16 should be accompanied by adults for pick-up and drop-off at the event venue.
7How to cancel reservation?
The Open Day encourages registered visitors to attend sessions on time. If visitors wish to cancel the reservation for any reason, please inform our staff for arrangement at least one week prior to the event day. All the seats are not transferrable to third parties.
8Can school reserve a session of AI Lab Visit for a group of students?
The AI Lab Open Day is mainly organized for the public to raise their awareness on AI. Schools are welcome to encourage students to register for the visit on their own capacity.
