Nurturing future innovation talent by offering students immersive experiences within CUHK research teams. Participants experienced authentic scientific environments firsthand, covering areas from AI, engineering, to patented achievements.
With a view to cultivating young talents aspiring to pursue disciplines in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and entering the innovation and technology sectors, the CUHK Jockey Club AI for the Future Project launched the "Job Shadowing Programme 2025." This initiative offered students the unique opportunity to participate in scientific inquiry alongside research teams at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Under the guidance of researchers, students engaged in the development and testing of AI robotic devices, understood the actual operational workflows of scientific research projects, and gained exposure to patent applications, thereby expanding their academic horizons and capacities for innovation.
Through staged research training covering programming, system design, mechanical integration, and outcome consolidation, students participated firsthand in a comprehensive scientific R&D workflow.
Mentored students successfully developed an automated pigment-mixing machine that integrates AI, mechanical control, and color analysis technologies. The system automates pigment switching, blending, and mixing processes, significantly enhancing color-mixing efficiency and consistency.
The student team successfully filed a patent application for their invention, further translating their creative concept into a research outcome with practical application value.
This achievement not only demonstrates the students' mastery of engineering technology and AI applications, but also reflects their ability to address real-world needs by leveraging technology to deliver innovative solutions.
Throughout the program, students participated in research discussions, software development, mechanical assembly, and system testing, gaining firsthand experience in the entire R&D lifecycle—from conceptualization to practical implementation.
By collaborating with the university research team, students acquired a profound understanding of the authentic research environment, while cultivating interdisciplinary thinking and innovative capabilities.
By participating in authentic research projects, students gain firsthand experience in the practical applications of AI and engineering technologies.
